Tawas Creek Golf & Country Club Newsletter January 2011
Happy New Year!!!!
Fall weather was pretty nice for a few weeks, and then it bottomed out to become winter. Its been cold long enough, and now that 2011 is here we are looking forward to warmer weather and seeing all of you.
We are planning some exciting outings, events and course upgrades that will make your season with us enjoyable. We hope you will participate in many of them, and bring your friends.
We are beginning to make plans to construct a new tee box on hole 4, and we are moving the ladies tee on #5. Hopefully, we will trim the tree on #13 so the par 3 is not a dogleg. Weve also upgraded equipment to better maintain the course. If all goes well we will again be able to spray for weeds. The process is slow, but each year you should notice an improvement.
We do not have any new tee markers this year, but is ay business, group or individual is interested in purchasing one please contact us. They are a welcome addition to the course.
Scotch Ball Tournaments were a great success last year. We had over a dozen couples each time and fun was had by all. We are looking forward to having 4 or 5 this year. For those of you who are unfamiliar with Scotch ball, it is played in teams of two; a man and woman. Both drive their tee shot on each hole, then choose the shot they will play. Then they alternate shots until holing out. We use a handicap system that allows every team to have a chance to win. There are lots of prizes and fun!

Monday Junior League begins the first Monday after school ends. There is no charge for children of members; there is a small fee for others. Junior Golf is open to youth between the ages of 5 and 18. Last year we had nearly 25 kids each week. We focus on teaching golf etiquette and skills to improve their game. This is a great activity during the summer for your kids to have fun in the sun. It runs for 6 weeks and ends with a tournament.
We have several leagues at Tawas Creek with openings for players.
Mondays beginning in June we will have a mens afternoon league and a mens evening money league. Starting the 2nd week in June we will again have a junior league.
Tuesday we have both a mens and womens league in the morning and in the afternoon. Last year we started a couples league. It started at 5:00PM and we played for about 10 weeks. Sign up in the pro shop, you will have a GREAT time.
Wednesdays we have a mens league in the morning, with the Elks league and a womens league in the afternoon.
